District 63 Meeting Minutes
October 24, 2009

Meeting began at about 9:15 am with Serenity Prayer

Introductions: DR (Bob), GR’s - 7, AGR – 1 and Alateen Liaison.

Readings: Tradition - Michelle (Al-Anon Alateen Service Manual 2006-2009) Daily Reader Joe (One Day at a Time); Concept 10 – CB (Al-Anon Alateen Service Manual 2006-2009)

7th Tradition – Randi passed around the basket.

Reports:

DR, (Bob) Minutes read from July 25, 2009 District 63 meeting.

MOTION: Accept July 25, 2009 Minutes with changes (Spelling of Kelly should be Keli and Randy should be Randi. Under announcements Stage should be Stag.

Treasurer: New Treasurer, Judy was not in attendance. Balance before 10/24/09 donations was $84.85 (7/25/09 $95.85 then received $39.00 and spent $50.00 for Alateen debt). Bob presented: $30 collected for 7th Tradition.

Hospitality: Michelle passed around sign up sheet for January 23, 2010 meeting. Michelle will either phone or email participants to remind them

1. Bob reported on 8/15/09 Assembly Meeting attended by DR and ADR and committee)
a. All future check payments need to be made payable to SCWS
b. Challenge of Forum subscriptions – time frame 5/09 to 5/10 – so far:

Home reps to reference at area meeting – remind people of challenge between districts – the district with the most subscriptions will be presented with a skit performed by the committee

Sell concept at area meetings – report back to Bob the number of new and renewed subscriptions of the Forum. Bob will provide status from other meetings

Per Michelle – emphasize drastic drop in subscriptions and that the Forum could be eliminated.
c. Next Assembly meeting is 11/21/09 –hot topics for this meeting are:
• The Blue Bulletin that is sent to GR’s – should the bulletin be mailed or emailed?
• How to deal with disruptive members
• Sponsorship for Alateen members
d. Check blog for phone/email list and meeting minutes for past meeting
e. 2010 meeting dates – tentatively the next meeting is scheduled for 1/23/10 at Bob & Michelle’s house, 14881 Oaktree Circle, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. The remaining 2010 meetings will be chosen at the January 2010 meeting.
f. SCWS area meeting for group reps will be held 11/21/09 at the Fullerton Senior Center
g. Roger (institutions) wants to know which districts have panels – Bob not aware of district 63 panels. Keli wants information to contact Roger – per Joe – it is in the Blue Bulletin
h. Share your Al-anon Memories – submit your al-anon memories to the WSO to be memorialized in a book scheduled for publication in 2011
i. Ask secretary to create a new phone/email list
j. AFG convention in Ontario 2009 – more profits than expected due to baskets that were raffled and other fundraising efforts – funds were disbursed to local Southern California inter-group offices

1. Fundraiser event scheduled 10/24/09 at Alano club in Garden Grove
2. Discussed future events will take place at Redlands University not UC Riverside. Redlands has a better campus
3. New Orange Blossom will be delivered in white envelopes
4. Michelle asked/Jim responded that Tuesday night preteen meeting was disbanded and debt was paid
5. OC inter-group office is going to maintain same location but will be closed on Saturday’s starting in November 2009

ALATEEN
1. Discussion led by Bob regarding certified Alateen sponsors and two to three month procedure to become certified.
a. Prospective sponsor obtains application from web site to become certified
b. Completed application are given to Bob or Jim for submission to Leah at her home address
c. Background check (paid by SCWS) performed on prospective sponsor
d. Upon passing background check Leah forwards information on to Bob who notifies the sponsor
e. All Alateen sponsors in District 63 need to be confirmed as certified sponsors.
1) Gwen will confirm sponsors at the Sunday, Tustin, 5:30 pm mtg
2) Michelle will confirm the Thursday, Garden Grove, 7:30 pm mtg (a woman’s stag coincides with Alateen and Preteen mtg)
f. Recently 5 new certified sponsors have been added and five more applications have been submitted to Leah
2. We are in year one of a three year term with our goal of financial support for preteen and Alateen start up or support of existing meetings
3. Jim discussed that Alateen and Preteen meetings are not listed on the web site to protect the privacy of the Alateen/preteen but are in the printed directory listing in district 63 – three meetings as follows: Tustin, Sunday, 5:30 pm; Garden Grove, Thursday, 7:30 pm; Huntington Beach, Tueday 7:30.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Joe – See the article in the Orange Blossom regarding 15th Alathon Auction (local office fundraiser, Saturday 12/5/09) support local service office – bring your $$$
2. Gwen – how much should be donated at the district meeting for 7th tradition – suggested $5.00 (which should be reimbursed by the Treasurer of the meeting you represent) and where does the money go? Some of the money is used as follows: $75.00 is set aside for Alateen start-up/support. $100.00 set aside for Alateen SCAC conference scholarships.
3. Michelle/Keli comments regarding Al-anon booth at Orange County Fair 2009 – not as in the past, no booth, just a spot in a shaded breezeway – participants not enthusiastic
4. Bob proposed a discussion on group rep outreach to expand World Service participation at district meetings - MOTION from Gwen to wait for a bigger meeting with more group reps in attendance; Randi second the motion. Motion passed

Meeting began at 9:09 with Serenity Prayer

Introductions: GR’s: 11; AGR’s: 2: DR; ADR; and Alateen Liaison.

Readings: Tradition 7–Sarah (Al-Anon Alateen Service Manual 2006-2009); Daily Reader-Michelle (Courage to Change); Concept 7–Keli (Al-Anon Alateen Service Manual 2006-2009)

7th Tradition – Bob passed around basket and shared that Barb resigned. Bob explained the position of Treasurer.

Reports:

Secretary: (Kim) Minutes read from April 25, 2009 District 63 mtg. Requested to add committee names, Joe, Cathy & Judy, for Alternate Rep’s report. Requested to add explanation of straw poll for our GR area of concentration.

MOTION: Accept April 25, 2009 Minutes with changes
Veronica put forth the motion; Lois seconded; Unanimous yeas. Motion passed.

Treasurer: (Judy P replaced Barb) $39 collected for 7th Tradition
Hospitality: (Michelle/Randi) Passed around sign-up sheet for October 24, 2009 meeting.

• Discussed SCAC ’09 in June at UC Riverside—over 300 teenagers attended. All requesting scholarships, received support.
• May need to step down because of move to LA County

Business:

Forum Subscriptions Contest-Bob
• Brainstorming discussion on what district 63 should do to help campaign
• Add subscription notice on blog
• Report back numbers to Bob S on number of subscriptions (new or renewal) for you meeting. Give the first name/last name initial and the meeting.

Support for Pre-teen/Alateen-Bernie
• Meeting is disbanding & corresponding Al-Anon meeting will pay “disbanding cost,” which is less than $75.

MOTION: Make a donation to Tuesday night Pre-Teen/Alateen Meeting for disbanding.
Elaine put forth the motion; Sara seconded; Unanimous yeas. Motion passed.

MOTION: Use half of reserve from Alateen start-up fund for disbanding meeting.
Randi put forth the motion; Michelle seconded. Amended by Veronica. Randi approved
amendment below.

MOTION: Instead of Alateen start-up fund, use $50 from general fund.
Veronica amended Randi’s motion; Keli seconded; Unanimous yeas. Motion passed.

What meetings are no longer in District 63 and have moved to District 64 (Spanish)?
• Bob continues to try to find out this information.

Someone mentioned to include our meetings in the Calendar of Events.
